At our most recent City Council meeting, we adjourned in her memory - an expression of the profound respect and gratitude our city holds for her remarkable life and service. Since making Newport Beach her home in 1955, Melinda's contributions have helped shape our city's character, strengthen its institutions, and preserve its natural beauty. Melinda's impact reached across generations and across causes. Whether through her board service with the Environmental Nature Center, the OCC Alumni Association, the Newport Foundation, or her visionary work helping to found Women in Leadership and AirFair, she gave generously of her time, talent, and heart. Her efforts on behalf of SPON and in advocacy for thoughtful airport oversight reflect a legacy of civic engagement rooted in care - for our environment, our neighborhoods, and our future. Above all, Melinda will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to the values that make Newport Beach such a special place to live. Please know that Melinda's memory will live on not just in the organizations she served, but in the lives she touched. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her contributions will endure for generations to come. With heartfelt sympathy and deepest respect, Joe Stapleton Mayor
