condolences on the loss of Rae Cohen. At our July 8 City Council meeting, we
Robyn Grant
adjourned in her honor, a gesture that feels small compared to the lasting legacy
Sara J. Weber
she leaves behind - but one that reflects our profound gratitude and admiration for
Erik Kenneth Weigand
the life she lived and the spirit she gave so freely.
Rae Cohen was the embodiment of a community servant - someone who gave
without hesitation, led without seeking recognition, and inspired countless others to
believe in their own potential. Through her decades of work with the Newport
Theater Arts Center and her deep involvement in civic, educational, and volunteer
organizations, Rae didn't just give back - she helped build the very fabric of this
community.
What stands out most is how deeply personal her impact was. She didn't simply
lead; she uplifted. She didn't just organize; she welcomed. Whether she was
mentoring young performers, coaching cheerleaders, helping patients at a dental
clinic, or opening her home and heart to her children's friends, Rae brought people
together with warmth, generosity, and encouragement.
Please know that Rae's memory will always be honored here in Newport Beach.
She made our city better, kinder, more vibrant, and more hopeful. We are grateful
beyond words for her life and her service.
With deepest sympathy and sincere appreciation,
Joe Stapleton
