Subject:JWA Planning Areas- ALUC Referrals
FYI…just wanted to clarify what constitutes the Planning Area for John Wayne Airport, as I was unclear on the definition. As a reminder, any General Plan Amendment or Code Amendment located within the JWA Planning Area requires Airport Land
Commission review. I always assumed that a project site located within the ring of the notification area was within the Planning Area, but that is not the case.
The JWA Planning Area is actually established by four boundaries:
1) Area within the 60 dB CNEL contour
2) Within Runway Protection Zones
3) Within Safety Zones
4) Area that lies above or penetrates the 100:1 imaginary surface for notification. You can use the Notice Criteria Tool (link located on the Planning Division Resources Page) to determine whether a project would penetrate the notification surface.
