Subject: 4010 River Ave Backflow Device
Good morning Mr. Nelson,
In Accordance with Title 17 of the California Administrative Code and the City of Newport Beach
Municipal Code Chapter 14.10, all piers and docks must have an approved backflow prevention device
installed on the water supply line serving that pier or dock.
Per our conversation regarding your dock, you can install a backflow device on the side of your house so
it wouldn't be offensive to view looking out towards the bay.
Your second option if you choose not to have water serving your dock, you can forgo installing a
backflow prevention device. If that is your decision not to have a dedicated waterline on your dock,
then you must cut and cap the existing waterline to the dock. In doing so, you will need to send the City
of Newport Beach Utilities Department a signed letter stating there is no water serving your dock at
4010 River Ave. After receiving your letter, I will go out to inspect the dock on your property.

I have elected to Eliminate Water Service to my Dock at 4010 River Avenue Newport Beach. See Phot showing that we
have properly Capped Off the Line in addition to the Shut Off Valve in the Closed Position.
I will send off a Formal Letter to the City of Newport Beach Utilities Department as directed below. Thank You again for
that information and direction.
