ORDINANCE SUMMARY
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on August 26, 2025, the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach, California, will introduce an Ordinance entitled:
ORDINANCE NO. 2025-20
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
SECTION 20.48.200 (ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS) OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE APPLICABLE TO ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS AND JUNIOR
ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS
This Ordinance provides amendments to Title 20 (Zoning Code) and Title 21 (Local Coastal
Program Implementation Plan) to update regulations pertaining to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)
and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADU). The amendments are intended to comply with State
ADU laws that went into effect on March 27, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
This Ordinance will be introduced by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach,
California, at a regular meeting thereof on the 26T" day of August, 2025.
Second reading of Ordinance No. 2025-20 will occur at the September 9, 2025, City
Council meeting. If adopted on September 9, 2025, the Ordinance shall become final and
effective 30 days after adoption.
