TOM", hunger andpoverty are issues ofvitalconcern in California, where more than one in five Californiansface foodinsecurity
on a daily basis anddo not know where theirnezt mealwillcome from; and
IVJMT"; everyone needs nutritiousfood to thrive, andpeople are working hard to providefor themselves and theirfamities—yet
over 359, 000 individuals, including over 86, 000 children, here in Orange County are food insecure; and
` NIM", the City of Newport Beach is committed to taking steps to combat hunger in every part of our community and to provide
additionatresources that those in Newport Beach need; and
'WJft A6W, the City of Newport Beach is committedto working with the Orange County5TungerACliance in educating peopre about
the role and importance of food banks and food care in addressing hunger and raising awareness of the need to devote more resources
andattention to hunger issues; and
`W. MRW, in the first half of 2025, Orange County TFoodBankandSecond.7farvest (Food Bankcotlzctively recordedan average of
810,996 individualfood distribution visits per month from our community members facing food insecurity; and
`61�'JiERW, in the first hatf of 2025, Orange County Food Bank and Second .71arvest Food Bank have collectively distributed
36,709,298 pounds of food through its partner network of food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, schools, colleges,
universities, houses ofworship, andother com munity organizations; and
`GI&gW", A6ound FoodCare helps to facilitate the recovery of over25 million pounds of excess edible foodin Orange County each
year, reducing food waste and d verting that food to those who need it; and
'tMW", the month ofSeptem6er has been designated ".7fungerAction 9Kontfi" in order to bring attention to foodinsecurity in
our communities and to enlist the public in the movement to end hunger by taking action — including volunteering, donating, and
advocating —to ensure every community, andevery6ody in it, has the food they need to thrive; and
'i1�.KERM, food banks and other organizations across the country, including the members of the Orange County IfungerACluince,
willhost events throughout the month ofSeptem6er to bring awareness andhetp endfoodinsecurity in our localcommunity.
