On behalf of the City Council and our community, I want to thank you for your recent
presentation on the history of the defeat of the coastal freeway plan, Your ability to
connect pivotal moments in our past with the Newport Beach we know today gives
all of us a deeper appreciation for the choices that have shaped our city.
This presentation, like so many you have shared with us, underscored the
importance of preserving our unique character and sense of place. Your insights
help us see that Newport Beach did not simply happen, it was built by the vision,
determination, and at times resistance of those who came before us.
As our Historian Laureate, you continue to enrich both the Council and our
community with stories that remind us of the values we hold dear. Thank you once
again for your dedication and for making history such a meaningful part of civic life.
