including (Frank and (Frances Robinson, formed the (Friends of Newport Bay to protect and preserve the VpperNewport
Bay, one of Southern California's Cast remaining estuaries; and
`WXET;E.f7S, through decades of unwavering dedication, that grassroots movement grew to encompass restoration,
education, research andadvocacy efforts under various names, ultimately becoming NBC in 2010; and
`W.F IM", the upper Newport Bay, also known as the BackBay, is home to nearly 240 species of birds and numerous
threatened and endangered species, and serves as a critical habitat for wifdlfe, a hu6 for environmental education, and a
recreational haven for thousands; and
UEEt7S, NBC is a volunteer driven organization with over 200 trained volunteers guided by a hands-on board and
small, dedicatedstaffCedby.'IfeatherCiestak Operations Director, and
` NIMM S, NBC has red transformative community engagement programs, connecting with 50,000 community
members annuaCty, and training naturalists who serve as ambassadors for this rare and vital ecoCogicar treasure, who
create a welcoming space for more than 500, 000 visitors to the Bay annuatry; and
`G NM ", NBC has contributed more than 260,000 hours of volunteer service to restoration, education and
stewardship, embodying the spirit of community action andenvironmentaCresponsi6iCity; and
`WXE4S, NBC continues to inspire new generations of environmental stewards through ongoing outreach, public
programming, and training, ensuring the tong -term protection of this essential estuarine ecosystem.
