At our most recent council meeting, we adjourned in his memory, pausing to honor his life, his work, and the legacy he leaves behind. Charlie's passing was not only a shocking tragedy, but also a painful reminder of how fragile life can be. His life was taken far too soon, and yet in his years of service, he accomplished so much. Through his leadership and voice, he inspired people across the country to be engaged, to care deeply about the future, and to stand firmly in their beliefs. That kind of influence is rare, and it is something that will endure long after his passing. Beyond his public work, I know that Charlie was first and foremost a husband and father. His greatest pride was in his family, and it is clear that the love he shared with you remains the truest reflection of who he was. While the weight of this loss is immeasurable, I hope you may find comfort in knowing that Charlie's devotion to you and his commitment to his values are remembered and honored by many. In Newport Beach, we join countless others in mourning his loss. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and that our city stands with you in grief and in respect. Though words cannot ease the pain of such a sudden loss, may the memory of Charlie's courage, passion, and faith bring you strength in the days ahead. With deepest sympathy, Joe Stapleton Mayor
