Erik Kenneth Weigand On behalf of the Newport Beach City Council, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your
outstanding presentation on the History of John Wayne Airport at our recent Council
meeting. Your remarks were not only informative but also a wonderful reminder of how
vision, leadership, and community collaboration have shaped our city and region over the
decades.
Your deep understanding of Newport Beach's history and your unique perspective as both a
former Mayor and Citizen of the Year added great meaning to the evening. The context you
provided —tracing the airport's origins, evolution, and its role in Orange County's growth —
was fascinating and truly appreciated by everyone in attendance. It was clear that your
commitment to preserving and sharing our city's story remains as strong today as it was
during your time in office.
We are grateful for the time and effort you dedicated to preparing and delivering such an
engaging presentation. Your continued involvement in civic life is a testament to your
enduring love for Newport Beach and your dedication to its success.
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, your passion, and your time with us. It was an
honor to have you back in the Council Chambers, reminding us of the rich history and
community spirit that define Newport Beach.
With deep appreciation,
Joe Stapleton
Mayor
