Dear Caroline and Family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Hugh's passing. On behalf of the City of Newport
Beach, it was an honor to adjourn our Council meeting in his memory and to
recognize the remarkable life he lived.
Hugh was a brilliant engineer and a dedicated public servant, but what stood out
most was his genuine love for this community. After an extraordinary professional
career, he chose to give back, serving on the Civil Service Board, the Aviation
Committee, and supporting countless civic efforts alongside Caroline. His
involvement with OASIS, Speak Up Newport, the 7C's, and the Citizens Police
Academy reflected a man who cared deeply about people, service, and making
Newport Beach better.
Hugh's contributions, leadership, and kindness will be long remembered, Please
know that our City is grateful for his service and that our thoughts are with you
during this difficult time.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Lauren Kleiman
Mayor
