WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS Because the committee had not been reinstated at the time, this was an informal meeting with no votes taken. 2. ROLL CALL Committee Members - Mayor Pro Tem Gardner, Barbara Danzi, John Heffernan, Sean Matsler, and Tony Petros City Staff - Brad Sommers, Mary Locey, and Sergeant Psaros Members of the Public – Lauren Bartolic, David Huntsman, Frank Peters, Jim Mosher, Dan Murphy, Dan Purcell, Amy Senk, and Ron Wortman 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was no approval of the minutes. 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Capital Projects 1. New signs have been placed along PCH and Bonita Canyon. The striping for right turns was to begin this night. Conversations with CalTrans about improving the transition from the toll road have stalled. 5. NEW BUSINESS A. Future of Committee - the bike report was going to the City Council on 1/10/12. If the committee is approved for another period, there will be a new appointment process. Tony Petros asked for a clarification of the mission. B. Cycling outreach presentation - Frank Peters presented a video on road diet - removing lanes for cars which in the right circumstances improves safety as well as encourages cycling. Also, Tony Petros and Frank Peters met with Huntington Beach reps about its bike friendly designation. They suggest the City apply. 6. POLICE REPORT A. There were 11 car vs. bike accidents in December. The accident rate for the year is consistent with years past. 7. COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENTS OR MATTERS WHICH MEMBERS WOULD LIKE PLACED ON A FUTURE AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION, ACTION OR REPORT (NON-DISCUSSION ITEM) No comments were made. 8. PUBLIC COMMENTS Jim Mosher reported that the Library Board of Trustees was not encouraging about bike provisions; Mayor Gardner reported that she had asked City Manager Kiff to follow up on that. Committee member Heffernan reported areas where roots were making cycling dangerous. Most of them are CalTrans areas and have been marked but nothing has been done.
