Briggs, L.W..Briggs, Thompson. Absent Willia:ason, Patterson. Minutes: Einate:s of last regular meeting, May 20, 1336, were approved as written. Union Cif Co: The Union Gil Co. application to the City und.er date of May 1, 1935, and referr- ed to the Planning Commission was discussed at length. Of the two lots owned by the Company, one now carries 7G00 gallons of gasoline storage and 6000 gallons of Class "B" petroleum products, and the other lot, being in the same bloc =: and within 100 feet of the bay, is vacant. The Ordinance limits total petroleum products that ;nay be stored in a single block within 100 feet of the waters of New- port Bay, to 10,000 gallons Of Class "A" (gasolines and 10,000 gallons of Class "B" (diesel oils, etc.) Also limits on new construction, to 5,000 gallons of Class "Ali and 5,000 gallons of Class "B °, petro- leum products per 2500 square feet of lot area. Mr. Thompson commented that such limitations were imposed in that district.on account of the real fir hazard involved. Mr. HnuELam stated that this business is a neeessit in this type of locality and that the Union 011 Co. facilities as a marine service station are the best existing here. In view of the fact that the unanimous vote of the council is required, under the Ordinance, to re- verse a negative recommendation of the Commission that the individual commissioners state thair ox.)inions of the probability of a formal request for a variance involving the required public head- ing, resulting favorably for the company, in order to save everyone's time. mr. Bau:a: Personally, I feel that the limits as required by the Ordinance are proper. The prece- dent of stretching he regulations contained there- in should not be set. Potion seconded by Com. Baum and carried unanimously. Tentative .Tan: Tentative Flop of Tract M proposed subd.ivlsion by American Legion Post *291 composed of eight lots on Bay Avenue between 9th St. and 19th St., was submitted. Loved by Palmer, seconded by Rau-a, that this tentative map be ap)roved subject to the require- ment that al L lots be of 4000 square feet minimum area, that new prints be furnished the co:i:aission for the files showing; that such renuire ents have been met, and farther the.t the Chalrmai; and Secretary be authorized to execute the approval on sach new prints. Motion carried. The Commission discussed a Pziaster Plan for Newport Beach and also the parking problem existing here. Tilton and Mr. TThompson comr:,ented on the legal phases of planning work.
