City Planning Commission,
Newport Beach, Calif.
Dear Sirs —
I have been informed that there is some interest in a proposed plan to
the ordinance prohibiting the drilling for oil within the city limits of
Newport Beach. As a property owner I wish to be put on record as being op»
posed to the changing of any ordinance which would allow the drilling for
' oil on the water front in Newport Beach.
I live in Redlands during the winter months and it will be impossible for
me to attend the meetings of the City Planning Commission due to the rubber
and gasoline situation but am at all times interested in civis ply of
Newport Beach.
Yours very truly
(Signed) Mrs. Grace E. Roderick

Mr. Harold W. Seeger,
City Planning Commission
Newport Beach, Calif.
Dear Sir:
For nearly 20 years the writer has been a taxpayer in the City of Newport
Beach, pioneered and aided in the.residential development of.that. section
of the city lying south of the Pacific Electric tracts between 36th Street
and the Santa Ana River and having at this time 2 pieces of property in
the block bordering Seashore Drive between Orange.and Colton Streets.
We built a cottage 16 years ago in the block at a time when there was but
2 other buildings between the river and 36th Street south of the tracks.
With just two other property owners of that section, as City Engineer
Patterson may recall, we supported the plan to pay the Pacific Electrio
Compamy for a strip paralleling the tracks to open what later became Sea-
shore Drive. In or about 1932 this was done with the cost. of $3,000 for
right.ef way and additional for cost of construction of Seashore Drive
assessed against the property owners within the area abovs referred to.
This is strictly a residential section used very largely as summer hoses of
non resident property owners but whose tax dollar are just as valuable 13L the
general fond bf t)te.cttjr as terse Of $6= permaheht residents. However# un-
fortunately at times, non resident taxpayers have small voice in the planning
and conduct of city business.
This letter is written for the purpose of registering a protest against any ,
action of Planning Commission or City Council of Newport Beach that might
open the way to permitting or authorising the drilling for oil in or near
that section of the city known as the Seashore Colony Tract.
Very tray yours,
( Signed) L. 0. Remand
