ORDINANCE NO. 427
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
'*OF NEWPORT BEACH PRO-
HIBITING THE SOLICITA-
TION OF TORT CLAIMS OR
CHOSES IN ACTION AND.
PROVIDING PENALTY FOR
THE. VIOLATION THEREOF.
The City of Newport Beach, by
and through its City Council, does
(ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. The word "per-
son" as used herein shall include
any corporation, association, so`-
%ciety, club, co- partnership or in-
dividual.
SECTION 2. It shall be un-
lawful for any person to solicit
employment for himself or for any
other person, either directly oi•
.through some other person acting
on his behalf, to prosecute, collect,.
'settle,: compromise or to nego =.,
'tiate for the settlement, compro-
raise or collection of any tort -
claim, on behalf of any tort claim-

SECTION 3. The provisions Of-
this ordinance shall not be con -

SECTION 4. Any person vio-
lating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be guilty of a mis.
demeanor and upon conviction
thereof shall be punished by fine
of not more than Three Hundred
Dollars ($300.00) or by imprison-
ment in the County Jail for a per -
1 6d of not more than ninety (90)
days, or by both such fine and
imprisonment.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk
Shall certify to the passage of this
ordinance and cause the same to
be published once in NEWPORT
NEWS, a weekly newspaper print-
ed, published and circulated In the
city of Newport Beach, Orange
County, California, and thirty days
thereafter it shall take effect and
be in force.
The above and foregoing Ordin-
ance was introduced at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the
city of Newport Beach held on the
5th day of November, 1934, and
was finally passed and adopted on
the 19th day of November, 1934,
by said City Council at a regular
meeting thereof by the following
vote, to -wit:
AYES, Councilmen: Gordon,
'Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hil+
mer.
.NOES, Councilmen: None.
ABSENT, Councilmen: None.
The foregoing- ordinance is sign-
ed and approved by me this 19th
day of November, 1934.
