ORDINANOE.W ',441.
The City of Newport Beach, by
and through'` its City Council, does
'ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlaw-
ful . for any person, firm, co -part-
nership or corporation, or for any
person, his agent, clerk, employee,
either for himself or for any other
etson, firm, co- jartnership or cor-
oration, within the corporate
limits of the City of Newport
Beach, to engage in or operate, or
attempt to engage in or operate,
or conduct any game of skill in the
city of Newport Beach, without
first obtaining a license therefor,
and paying the license fees herein
provided for.
SECTION 2. For every game
of skill operated in the City of
Newport Beach, unless .,a license
therefor is othcrwise provided by
some section of this ordinance, and
where a prize, souvenir or other
object bf value is won, given 6r
awarded to a player, if but oo "$e
person is able to play at a'time at
any such game, the rate of license
for each game is hereby fixed at
$,25.00 per annum, provided that
for each additional unit or or to
such game, if operated, maintained
and conducted by or under the
same management, and within the
same storeroom, then for each ad-
ditional unit, the sum of $10.00 per
annum, it being the intention of
this section to license the first unit
of any game described herein at
$25.00 per annum, and each ad-
ditional unit at $10.00 per annum.
SECTION 3. For all games of
Skill conducted, operated or main-
tained in the city of Newport
Beach, where a prize, souvenir or
dther object of value is given, won

SECTION 5. This ordinance

SECTION 6. If any licensee
hereunder shall be convicted in a
court of competent jurisdiction, of
conducting or operating within the
City of Newport Beach, any game

!State of California, or of the City
ordinances of the City of Newport
Beach, his license or permit here=
under shall thereupon be cancelled
and revoked at any regular meet-
ing or any special meeting of the
City Council of the city of New,
port Beach called for that purpose.
SECTION 7. All licenses grant-
ed under the terms of this ordifi-
ance shall be, and shall be con -
stived to'be annual licen5os, which
Hhali be in force and effect until
the lst day of July of the year in
which they are issued. However,
any person, firm or c6rporation as
aforesaid, may obtain a license to
be in full force and effect until
the 1st day of July, 1936, by the
payment of one -half of the annual
license fees herein provided for.
SECTION 8. The grantees of
licenses hereunder shall at all
times conduct games in an orderly
manner, and in accordance with
the laws of the State of California.
It is further provided in this con-
nection that grantees of licenses
hereunder shall not allow or per-
mit any person under the age Of
twenty` -one yews to operate, main-
tain, c6ndu6t `Br play said games,
and appropHate signs shall tie kept
posted on said games at all times
to'said effect.
SECTION iil. Ordinati6S No. 435
of the City bf Newport Beach, and
all other drdinances or parts of
ordinances in conflict with this
ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 10. This ordinance
shall be published once in NEW-
PORT NEWS, a newspaper of
general circulation, printed, pub-
lished and circulated in the city bf
Newport Beach, and shall take ef.
fect and be in force thirty days
after Its passage.
I hereby certify that the fore -
going Ordinance was duly intro -
duced before the City Council of
the city of Newport Beach at a
regular meeting thereof held on
the 6th day of January, 1936, and
'passed at a regular meeting there-
of held on the 13th day of Janu-
ary, 1936, by the following vote,
to -wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Gordon,
Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hlimer.
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None.
ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: None
