WHEREAS, certain employees
ployees of thS City of Newport
Beach who shall have been in-
ducted into the armed forces of
the United States Government
under the provisions of the Selec-
tive Training and Service Act of
1940, or who shall have enlisted
in the United States armed forces
since the passage of said Act,
shall upon their honorable dis-
charge from said armed forces be
eligible, if still qualified to per-
form the duties of such position,
upon written application to the
City Council of the City of New-
. port Beach made within three (3)
months after said discharge, for
re- instatement to the same job or
position held by them with the
City of Newport Beach at the time
of their enlistment or induction In-
to the armed forces of the United
States Government as aforesaid.
SECTION 2. Upon the rein-
statement of a former employee
of the City of Newport Beach as
provided for in Section 1 hereof,
by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach, said employee
shall not be discharged within one
(1) year after said re- instatement,
• except upon good cause shown.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall
be published once in the NEW-
PORT- BALBOA PRESS, a weekly
newspaper printed, published and
circulated in the City of Newport
Beach, and shall take effect and
be in force thirty (30) days after
its passage.
I hereby certify that the fore-
. going ordinance was introduced at
an adjourned regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach held on the 18th
day of May, 1942, and was finally
passed and adopted on the 1st day
of June, 1942, by the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach at
a regular meeting thereof by the
following vote, towit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Gordon,
Allen, Isbell, Reed, Hall.
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None.
ABSENT COUNCILMEN:
None.

The above and foregoing Ordi-
nance is signed and approved by
me this 1st day of June, 1942.

and Service act aforesaid; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy and
meaning of said Selective Train-
ing and Service Act that all em-
ployees inducted under the pro-
visions thereof, as well as all men
enlisting in the armed forces of
the United States Government
since the passage of said Act,
should upon their honorable dis-
charge from the armed forces to
civilian life, be re- instated in their
former jobs and positions without
loss of tenure, seniority, status
and pay.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AS FOL-
LOWS:
SECTION 1. That all em-
ployees of thS City of Newport
Beach who shall have been in-
ducted into the armed forces of
the United States Government
under the provisions of the Selec-
tive Training and Service Act of
1940, or who shall have enlisted
in the United States armed forces
since the passage of said Act,
shall upon their honorable dis-
charge from said armed forces be

City Council of the City of New-

passed and adopted on the 1st day
of June, 1942, by the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach at
a regular meeting thereof by the
following vote, towit:
