• ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING CHAPTER 2.12.050 OF THE
NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO THE
FIRE DEPARTMENT.
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby
ordain as follows:
Section 1: Section 2.12.050 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
2.12.050 Fire Department. The Fire
Department shall be under the supervision
of the Fire Chief. The functions of the
Fire Department shall include:
(a) The extinguishment of structural,
brush and other types of fires.
• (b) The enforcement of laws concerned
with fire prevention.
(c) To abate any hazard or nuisance
caused by any substance that presents
a threat to the public because of
toxicity, radioactivity, flammability
or other characteristic dangerous to
the public health or environment.
(d) Such other functions as may be
delegated by the City Manager or the
City Council.
Section 2: All other provisions of Chapter 2.12 shall
remain in full force and effect.
Section 3: The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this Ordinance. The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper

within fifteen (15) days after its adoption. The Ordinance shall
