AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 20.87.140 OF THE
NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE SO AS TO REVISE THE
DEFINITION OF THE TERM "DWELLING UNIT"
(Planning Commission Amendment No. 671)
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does ordain as follows:
SECTION I. Section 20.87.140 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
20.87.140 DWELLING UNIT. The term "dwelling unit" shall mean
any area within a structure on any parcel which:
a) Contains separate or independent living facilities for one
or more persons, with area or equipment for sleeping, sanitation and food
preparation, and which has independent exterior access to ground level: or
b) Is being utilized for residential purposes by one or more
persons separately or independently from occupants of other areas within
the structure.
Dwelling units constructed after August 24, 1972, must contain a minimum of 600
square feet of floor area within the surrounding walls of a building.
SECTION II. This Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of Newport Beach, held on the 24th day of October,
1988, and adopted on the 14th . day of November , 1988, by the following vote:
