AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING SECTIONS 12.57.020,
12.57.025 AND 12.57.027 OF CHAPTER 12.57 OF
THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO
SKATEBOARDING AND ROLLERSKATING REGULATIONS.
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby
• ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: Chapter 12.57 of the Newport Beach Municipal
Code is amended to read:
Section 12.57.020 Skateboarding Restrictions. Skateboarding
shall be prohibited on all public streets, sidewalks, parking lots
and other public property located in the City of Newport Beach
having a grade of six percent (6 %) or more and which are declared
by resolution of the City Council to be hazardous to pedestrians,
motorists or persons operating skateboards. The City Council may
by resolution prohibit skateboarding on public streets, sidewalks,
parking lots and other public property having a grade of less than
six percent (6 %) when it is determined to be necessary to protect
• the health, safety and welfare of pedestrians, motorists or persons
operating skateboards on said streets and sidewalks.
Section 12.57.025 Rollerskating Restrictions. Rollerskating
shall be prohibited on all public streets, sidewalks, parking lots
and other public property in the City of Newport Beach which are
declared by resolution of the City Council to be hazardous to
pedestrians, motorists or persons rollerskating.
Section 12.57.027 Rollerskating Restrictions - Location And
Hours. Rollerskating shall be prohibited on such public streets,
sidewalks, parking lots and other public property within the City
of Newport Beach during those hours and at those locations which
are declared by resolution of the City Council to be locations
where rollerskating is prohibited.
SECTION 2: That if any section, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason, held to be
invalid or unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the
validity or constitutionality of the remaining portions of this
ordinance. The City Council hereby declares that it would have

passed this ordinance, and each section, subsection, clause or
phrase hereof, irrespective of the fact that any one or more
sections, subsections, sentences, clauses and phrases be declared
unconstitutional.
SECTION 3: The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper of
the City, and it shall be effective thirty (30) days after its
adoption.
SECTION 4: This ordinance was introduced at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, held on
the 28th day of May , 19 91, and adopted on the 10th day of
June 1 1991, by the following vote, to wit:
