AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING CHAPTER 15.08 OF THE NEWPORT BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADOPT THE UNIFORM PLUMBING
CODE, 1991 EDITION
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES ORDAIN as follows:

15.08.010 Adoption of Uniform Plumbing Code
The City Council adopts and incorporates by reference, as though set forth
in full in this Chapter, the 1991 edition of the "Uniform Plumbing Code" Chapters
1 through 13 and Appendices A, B, C, D, E, H and I, and the Installation
Standards, as published by the International Association of Plumbing and
Mechanical Officials. The City Council also adopts and incorporates by reference
all applicable portions of Title 24, California Code of Regulations subject to
the changes, and modifications set forth in this chapter.
The various parts of these Codes and Standards, along with the additions,
amendments, and deletions adopted in this Chapter, shall constitute and be known
as the Newport Beach "Plumbing" Code. A copy of the 1991 Uniform Plumbing code,
printed in code book form, shall be kept on file in the office of the City Clerk.
15.08.020 Deletion of Part 1 Administration of the Plumbing Code.
15.08.020 Part 1 Administration of the Plumbing code is deleted in its
entirety. All administrative provisions including enforcement, permit process,
fees, and inspections for this Chapter are contained in the Administrative Code
under Chapter 15.02.

15.08.030 Amendment to Section 1212(a). Section 1212(a) is added to the
Plumbing Code to read: 1212(a) All pipe used for the installation or extension,
alteration, or repair of any gas piping shall be standard weight wrought iron or
steel (galvanized or black), yellow brass (containing not more than seventy -five
(75) percent copper), or internally tinned or equivalency treated copper of iron
•pipe size. Approved PVC or Poly Ethylene pipe must be used in exterior buried
piping systems.
15.08.040 Amendment to Section 1310(g). Section 1310(g) of the Plumbing
Code is amended to read: 1310(g) When a water heater is located in an attic,
furred space or any location where, in the opinion of the Building Official,
damage my result from a leaking water heater, a water tight pan of corrosion
resistant materials shall be installed beneath the water heater. Such pan will
be equipped with a minimum three quarter (3/4) inch diameter drain to an approved
location.
SECTION 2. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this ordinance is, for any reason, held to be invalid or unconstitutional, such
decision shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of the remaining
•portions of this ordinance. The City Council hereby declares that it would have
passed this ordinance, and each section, subsection, clause or phrase hereof,
irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections, subsections, sentences,
clauses, and phrases be declared unconstitutional.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall be published once in the official
newspaper of the City, and the same shall be effective thirty (30) days after the
date of its adoption.

This Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach held on the 11th day of May , 1992, and was
adopted on the 8th day of June 1992, by the following vote to wit:
