HomeMy WebLinkAbout94-1 - Regarding Regulation of Security Guard UniformsORDINANCE NO. 94 -1 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH REGARDING REGULATION OF • SECURITY GUARD UNIFORMS. The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby ordain that Section 10.12.020 shall be added to the Newport Beach Municipal Code to read as follows: 10.12.020 Regulation of Security Guard Uniforms. A. No person acting in the capacity of a private security guard, private patrol officer, or private law enforcement officer, shall wear any uniform which has not been certified by the Chief of Police of the City of Newport Beach to be clearly distinguishable from the uniforms worn by personnel of the Newport Beach Police 0 Department. B. Any person acting in the capacity of, or operating the business of, private security, private law enforcement, or private patrol, shall submit uniforms to the Chief of Police for a determination whether they are clearly distinguishable from uniforms worn by personnel of the Newport Beach Police Department. The Chief of Police shall render a written decision within ten (10) days of submittal. The person or entity submitting the uniforms shall have the right to appeal any adverse decision to the City Manager. The appeal shall be in writing and submitted to the City Clerk within ten (10) days of notice of the decision. SECTION 2: The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper of the City, and it shall be effective thirty (30) days after its adoption. '3C • • SECTION 3: This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, held on the 10th day of January, 1994, and adopted on the 241h day of January 1994, by the following vote, to wit: AYES, COUNCILMEMBERS SANSONE, WATT, TURNER HART COX, DEBAY NOES, COUNCILMEMBERS NONE ABSENT COUNCILMEMBERS HEDGES MAYO ATTEST: -2-
