AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING SECTIONS 12.24.020
THROUGH 12.24.049 OF THE NEWPORT BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING INCREASING STATE
SPEED LIMITS
• The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby ordain as follows:
Section 12.24.020, "Increasing State Speed Limits ", is hereby amended to read
as follows:
Section 12.24.020, Increasing State Speed Limits
It is hereby determined upon the basis of engineering and
traffic surveys that the speed permitted by State law upon
the streets or parts thereof described in Sections 12.24.030
through 12.24.045 is less than is necessary for safe
operation of vehicles thereon by reason of the nature of the
streets, the stops signs on intersecting streets or the wide
spacing of intersections, and it is hereby declared that
the prima facie speed limit shall be as hereinafter
designated on those streets or parts thereof when signs are
erected giving notice thereof.
Section 12.24.030, "Prima Facie Speed Limit - Thirty Miles Per Hour ", is
repealed and replaced to read as follows:

Per Hour.
The prima facie speed limit on the following named streets
or parts thereof shall be thirty (30) miles per hour:
Avocado Avenue from Waterfront: Drive to East Coast
Highway.
Cliff Drive from Riverside Avenue to Dover Drive.
Dover Drive East from Westcliff Drive to Irvine Avenue.
Mariners Drive from Dover Drive to End of Street West.
Newport Boulevard from Finley Avenue to 21 st Street.
Old Newport Boulevard from West Coast Highway northerly
to15th Street.
Santa Isabel Avenue from Irvine Avenue to Tustin Avenue.
Westminster Avenue from Old Newport Boulevard to 15th
Street.
15th Street from Irvine Avenue to St. James Road.
•Section 12.24.040, "Prima Facie Speed Limit - Thirty -five Miles Per Hour ", is
repealed and replaced to read as follows:
Section 12.24.040, Prima Facie Speed Limit - Thirty -five
Miles Per Hour.
The prima facie speed limit on the following named streets
or parts thereof shall be thirty -five (35) miles per hour:
Irvine Avenue starting at a point eight hundred twenty -six
(826) feet north of Mariners Drive and extending to Santiago
Ord. 96 -42
Drive. Monrovia Avenue. Harbor Island Drive from Harbor
Island Road to End of Street (E).
Section 12.24.045, 'Prima Facie Speed Limit - Forty -five Miles Per Hour', is
repealed and replaced to read as follows:
Section 12.24.045, Prima Facie Speed Limit - Forty -five
Miles Per Hour.
• The prima facie speed limit on the following named streets
or parts thereof shall be forty -five (45) miles per hour:
Campus Drive.

Section 12.24.049, "Prima Facie Speed Limit - Fifty -five Miles Per Hour ", is repealed.
This Ordinance shall be published once in the official newspaper of the City, and
the same shall be effective thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption.
This Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach held on the 12th day of November 1996, and
adopted on the 25th day of November 1996, by the following
vote, to wit:
