Dear Mr. Berkley Pursuant to the sanitary vent system, we would like to file a variance to assist the project to continue towards the completion date. Venting System 1. UPC 1994, Section 901.0 states that fixture trap "shall be protected against siphonage and back - pressure and air circulation shall be assured throughout all parts of the drainage system by means of vent pipes". 2. The fixture trap requires an atmospheric pressure of ±1 inch of water column. The vent piping must be designed to permit the air to flow freely without compression or expansion, except for the small amount necessary to overcome friction. 3. The velocity of air flow out of an outlet to the vent pipe outlet is the actual quantity of discharge in GPM and calculated to be 13.17. 4. The static pressure of air is based on the density of water/cu.ft. The density of air in lbs./cu.ft. at a temperature of 70°F. has been calculated to 69.23 ft. of air column. Therefore the rate of discharge from a vent outlet can be determined as 1 inch of water or 69.23 ft. of air. 5.
