Resolution ordering work done.
• Resolved, that whereas, the Botrd of .Trustees of the
city of Newport Beach did, cn the let d-y of December, 1913, puss
itsr >solution of Intention No. 33 to order the hereinafter des-
cribed work to be done and improvement to be made i:i said city,
which Resolution of Intention was duly and legally published as
req.ired b law as appears by the affidavit of Walter Cornelius
now on file in the office of the Clerk of said city of Newport
Beach; and
rhereas, notices of the passage of said Resolution of
Intention No. 33 headed: "Notice of Improvement" were duly and
legall;. posted Glong the line of said contemplated work and im-
provement, and in front of all the property liable to be assessed
therefor, in form and mannEr as required by law, immediately cfte.•
the passage of said Resolution of Intention as appears frort, the
affidavit of J. F.. Barker, Street Superintendent of said city of
Newport Beach, ,ho, upon the comyletion of the posting of said
notices, forthwith filed said affidavit in the office of the Clerk
of the city of Nei7_.or t Beach, ma ins oath that he completed the
posting of said nodose on the day of December, 1913; and
nerea.s, more than fifteen days has expired since the
day of the second ublicaticn of said Resolution of Intention No.
33 and the cmmpleticn of the Iosting of said "notices of Improve-
ment",
Therefore, be it resolved, that the public interest and
convenience require the work to be done or improvement made here-
inafter described, and the Board of Trustees of the city of Newport
Beach hereby orders the follov+ing work to be done or improvement
• made in said city, to -v ..it:
That a cement sidewalk and cement curb be constructed
upon and along the Southerly side of that portion of Central Avenue
r.:enticned and described in Sec. 1 of Resolution of Intention No. 33
That the cement sidev:al:. &nd cement curb be constructed upon the
sidewalk reservati ^n provided for for said street by Sec. 1 of Crdin-
ante No. 24 of the city of Newport Beach, and shall 1�9 constructed
adjoining, along and para$lel with the yrcperty line upon said pow -
tion of said streets.
That the cement sidewalks to be constructed upon that por-
tion of Central Avenue mentioned and described in Sec.l of Resolution
of Intention No. 33, shall be 5 ft. in width provided however, thLt
the outer six inches of said sidewalk being the six inches next to
the street line, shall consist of a, curb so that the side% -:alk and
curb when constructed shall wholly cover the side•alk reservation,
so provided for by Sec. 1 of Ordinance No. 24 of the city of Newport
Beach.
;;henever any portion of the avenue mentioned upon v?hich
work is to be done or improvement mode shall be intersected by a
street or alley, then the sidewalk to be constructed across such
street or alley shall be considered cross -walks and shall be reduced
or increased in width so that the cross -walks or walks across the in-
tersecting street or al'_ey shall be 4 ft. in width, and the curb shall
not be carried across said intersecting street or alley, but on either
side of said intersecting street or alley the curb shall return= from
the street line to the outer edge of the cross -walk on a curve, the
radius of which curve shall be 5 ft. and the cross -walks shall be
sloped or tapered by an apron from the surface of the cross -walk to
the surface of the street.
The cement sidewalk shall be constructed as follows; The
earth foundation shall be filed in and tar:.ped solid to such a height
as when surfaced by the walk shall conform to the grade established;
The cement surfacing of said sidewalk shall consist of a found&ticn
layer 2A inches thick of concrete_, composed of seven parts of fine,
clean gravel to one part of beat Portland cement; one -he.lf inchthick
amposed of equal parts of clean, sharp sand and best Portland cement
to be floated and troweled to a true and even surface, sloping tc-
r,'&rd the street in the ratio of 3 /16the of an inch fall to each foot
in width of the sidewalk.
All aprons by which cross -walke are tapered at intersectic,e
shall be composed of like material as sidewalks except that the surface
of the ppron shall be left rough. The curb shall consist of a core 16
inches thick e.t the bottom, 6 inches thick at the top, and 15 inches
deep, set with the batter toward the street, and the top, when finish,
ed, in line with the slopir_g surface of the walk. Such top and the
upper ten inches of the batter or street surface to be dressed �"
thick with the same finish as required for the surface of sidewalks.
There is excepted from the operation of-this Resolution
any of *eaid sidewalk and Curb where a cement sidewalk and curb has
already been constructed upon the line and to the official grade
of that portion of Central Avenue mentioned anddesi5nated in Sec.
1 of the said Resolution of Intention No. 33.
The Clerk of the city of Newport Beach is hereby directed
• to post a notice of said work together with the specifications there-
fore conspicuously for five days on or near the council chamber door
• inviting sealed proposals r•r bids for doing th-work ordered. He is
also directed to publish a notice inviting such proposals and refer -
ing to the specifications posted and on file, in the Newport News,
a weekly newspaper published and circulated in the city of Newport
Beach and hereby designated for that purpose.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is the Resolution ordering the
work done No. and was duly anC regularly passed by the Board
of _Trustees of the city of Newport Beach on the 19th day of January,
