RESOLUTION CALLING ELECTION ON ANNEXATION
OF NEWPORT HEIGHTS ADDITION TO THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach did on the //-d"L day of September, 1931, receive
a written petition asking that certain new territory hereinafter
described be annexed to, incorporated in and made a part of the
City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach has found that said written petition was signed
by not less than one - fourth in number of the qualified electors
residing in said territory, as shown by the Registration of voter
of Orange County, California.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach hereby r ®solves as follows:
1. A special election is hereby called and
ordered to be held in the territory hereinafter described, for
the purpose of submitting to the electors residing in said
territory the question whether said territory shall be annexed
to, incorporated in and made a part of the City of Newport Beach.
A notice shall be given of said election by the publication of a
notice thereof in the *Orange County Reporter ", a daily newspaper
of general circulation, printed, and published outside of said
City of Newport Beach, but in the County of Orange, State of
California, in which said territory is situated, at least once a
week for four (4) successive weeks next preceding the date of
said election; said notice to be in words and figures substan
as follows:

NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: That a special
election will be held in the territory hereinafter
described, designated as the °Newport Heights Addition"
on the ;? day of October, 1931, for the
purpose o�ubmit into the electors residing in said
territory the question whether said territory shall be
annexed to, incorporated in and made a part of said City
of Newport Beach.
The territory so proposed to be annexed is
particularly described as follows, to -wit:
All that territory situated in the County of
Orange, State of California, described as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the point of intersection of the
center line of old County Road as laid out and shown upon
a map of Tract No. 27, recorded in Book 9, page 26 of
Miscellaneous Maps, Records of Orange County, California#
with the easterly line of Newport Avenue, as laid out and
shown upon Sheet 37 W of the Official Map of Orange County,
on file in the office of the County Surveyor of said Orange
County, said point of intersection being an angle point in
the present City boundary of the City of Newport Beach;
thence northwesterly along said easterly line to an inter-
section with the center line of 16th Street as laid out and
shown upon a map of Newport Heights recorded in Book 4,
page 83 of Miscellaneous Maps, Records of Orange County,
California; thence southeasterly along the center line of
said 16th Street to a point 825 feet southeasterly from
the intersection of said center line of 16th Street with the
center line of Irvine Avenue as shown upon said map of
Newport Heights; thence southwesterly along a line parallel
with the said center line of Irvine Avenue 1320 feet to an
intersection with the southeasterly prolongation of the
center line of 15th Street as Md out and shown upon said
map of Newport Heights and the Map of First Addition to
Newport Heights as recorded in Book 4, page 94 of Miscellan-
eous Maps, Records of said County; thence northwesterly
along the last mentioned southeasterly prolongation 825
feet to an intersection with the said center line of Irvine
Avenue which point is an angle point in the present City
boundary line of the City of Newport Beach; thence north-
westerly, southwesterly, and southerly along the present
boundary line of the City of Newport Beach to the point
of beginning.
The electors of said territory are hereby directed to vote upon
said question in the manner hereinafter set forth.
29 The City Council does hereby establish
for the purpose of holding said special election one election
precinct, the boundaries of which shall be the boundaries of said
territory, and the place at which the polls will be open for said

election in said territory so proposed to be annexed will be at

The City Council hereby appoints the officers to
conduct said special election as follows%

Inspector.:
all of said officers being qualified e]e otors of said precinct
and said territory.
39 Upon the ballots to be used at said election
there shall be printed the words, "Shall the "Newport Heights
Addition" be annexed to the City of lewport Beaoh7,-Y6s"_and "ghalI
the "Newport Heights Addition" be annexed to the City of Newport
Beach? -No ". There shall be a voting square to the right of and
opposite each of said propositions, otherwise the ballots used
at said election, the opening and closing of the polls, and the
holding and conducting of said election shall be in conformity
as iiear as may be to the laws of this State concerning general
elections, except as herein otherwise provided. The Judges and
Inspector of said election shall meet upon the closing of the
polls, count the ballots, make up, certify and seal the ballots
and tally sheets of the ballots oast at the polling place, and
thereupon deliver , and deposit the same with the returns thereof
to the Clerk of the City Council.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
duly and regularly introduced, passed and adopted by the City
Council cf the City of Newport Beach at a regular meeting thereof
held on the 6th day of September, 1931, by the following vote,
