RESOLUTION NO. 862
WHEREAS, the water supply of the City of Newport Beach
has become contaminated and is no longer fit for human consumpt
:..
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is now obtaining its
water supply from outside sources and such outside sources may
and have the right at any time to cease furnishing water for said
City; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach, the need to develop water immediately for the
use of said city is necessary and the City Council does not have
time to advertise for bids for the doing of the work contemplated
as provided for by law; and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council that the
contamination of said city water supply and the inability to
contract definitely for water, constitutes and is a great public
calamity and an emergency exists by reason thereof.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach, that the public interest and necessity
demand the immediate expenditure of public money to safeguard
life, health and property in.the City of Newport Beach; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach appropriate the sum of #6000.00 for the
purpose of drilling two certain wells on City owned property,
to -wit, one well on the ninety -three acre tract of land owned
by said city, and 1�ocated ;on the southeast corner of Adams and
Wright Street in Orange County, California, and being in the
Northwest quarter of Section 8, Township 6 South, Range 10 West,
S. B. B. & M, and another well on the thirty -four acre tract cf
land owned by the city, and located on the Northeast corner of

Fairview Avenue and Huntzinger Avenue in Orange County,
California, in the Northwest.quarter of Section 34, Township 5
South, Range 10 West, S. B. B. & M; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That said "$6000.00 mentioned
in the foregoing paragraph be used for the purpose of paying
for the materials and the labor to be performed in the drilling
of said wells; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City of Newport Beach
enter into a contract with for the
drilling of said well on said ninety - three acre tract aforesaid,
and that the Mayor and City Clerk of said city execute said con-
tract in the name of and on behalf of the City of Newport Beach;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City of Newport Beach
enter into a contract with for the
drilling of said well on.said thirty -four acre tract owned by the
City of Newport Beach, and that the Mayor and City Clerk of said
city execute said contract in the name of and on behalf of the
City of Newport Beach; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the casing, shoe and
starter for both of said wells be furnished at the expense of
the city of Newport Beach, and that said materials for said
well on said ninety -three acre tract be purchased from the State
Steel Products, Inc., of Santa Ana, California, at the prices
submitted by said State Steel Products, Inc., to the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach, and that the materials necessary
for the well located on the thirty -four acre tract be purchased
from the Utility Supply-Company of Los Angeles, California, at
the prices stated in their letter to the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Engineer of
the City of Nenort Beach be, and he is hereby directed to

purchase said materials from said named companies and that said
materials be inspected by said City Engineer and approved by him
before the same shall be used; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the contracts for the
drilling of said two named wells this day presented by the City
Attorney of the City, of Newport Beach to the City Council of said
city, be and the same are hereby approved as to form and contents
and thatthe same be executed by the Mayor and City Clerk of
the City of Newport Beach in the name of and on behalf of said
city.
I hereby certify that the above and foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of
the city of Newport Beach, at a special meeting thereof held on
the 28th day of November, 1934, by the following vote, to -wit:
