A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HEMRT BEACH, CALIKFMIA, SETTING FORTH THE
OFFICERS TO BE ELECTED AND THE PROPOSED fl9GENDNEM
TO THE CHARTER OF TH8 CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, TO BE
SUBNITFRD TO THE ELECTORS OF SAID CITY AT THE
REGULAR GENERAL MUNICIPAL .ELECTION TO 89 HELD IN
SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, THE IOTH DAY OF APRIL, 1956,
APPOINTING THE W.ACTION OFFICERS AND ESTABLISHING
THEIR COMPENSATION, DESIGNATING POLLING PLACES AND
PROVIDING FOR THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE POLLS
FOR SAID MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Charter of Newport
Beach, a regular general municipal election shall be held on the
10th day of April, 19560 for the election of three members of the
City Council from the following; districts, to wits First District,
Fifth District, and Sixth District, for the full term of four
years in accordance with the City Charter of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Newport Bch, in secordaneel
with the provisions of Section 8 of Article XI of the Constitution
of the State of California, on its own motion, proposed certain
amendmentb to the Charter of the City of Newport Beach to be sub-
mitted to the qualified electors of said City at the regular
`general municipal election to be held on Tuesday, the 10th day
jof April, 1956.
NOW# THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport
IIBeach, does hereby resolve, declare and determine and order as
(follows:
SECTION 1. That there shall be held in the City of
Newport Beach, on Tuesday, the 10th day of April, 1956, a
regular general municipal election of the qualified electors of
said city for the purpose of electing three (3) members of the
City Council from the following districts, to wits First District,
IlFifth District and Sixth District, for the full to of four (4)
,years in accordance with the City Charter of Newport Beach.
SECTION 2. That at the said regular general municipal
Ilelection to be held on Tuesday, the 10th day of April, 1956, there

shall be submitted to the qualified electors of the City of Newport
Beach the following proposed Charter Amendments, to wit:

proposed charter amendment.
SECTION 3t That the ballots to be used at said election
shall be, both as to form and matter contained therein, such as
may be required by law to be used thereat.
aRCTION 4s That the City Clerk of said City is hereby
authorized, instructed and directed to procure and furnish any
and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies,
equipment and paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to
properly and lawfully conduct said election.
SECTION 5s That for the purpose of holding said regular
general municipal election, there shall be eighteen (18) voting
precincts within the said City consisting of either regular
election precincts established for holding State or County election
or a eonsoli.dation of some or all of such precincts. The
respective precincts, polling places of said respective precincts,
and the respective boards of election for said respective prey
icincts are hereby fixed, designated, appointed and established
as follows;

as required by law and to advertise said Charter Amendments in
accordance with Section 8 of Article X1 of the Constitution of
the State of California, and shall cause to be printed, on plain;
white paper, without watermarks, at least as many copies of the
form of ballot provided and used in each voting precinct as
there are voters in the precinct. Such copies shall be designated
Ise "Sample Ballat" upon their race. Said City Clark shall
cones to mail one Sample Ballot, postage prepaid, to each voter

April, 1956. The wailing of said Sample Ballots shall be
completed at least 10 whole days before said stay of election.
The number of such Sample .Ballots printed shall not exceed the
total registration by wre than Fifteen Percent (15 %). Said
City Clerk shall also enclose in the envelope with each of said
Ballots, a card stating the locations of the precinct's polling
place of each Voter. Osily official matter shall be sent in such
