• 2 WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Newport Beach is
3I saddened by the death of Col. Andrew W. ( "Andy ") Smith, and
4 WHEREAS, Col..Smith served the City of Newport Beach as
5 Councilman from 1952 to 1955 and as Mayor for part of that
6 period, and
7 WHEREAS, as a City official and later as critic and
8 commentator in the Council Chambers, at community meetings, and
9 in the press, "Col„ Andy" earned recognition for forthright and
10 persistent devotion to the civic causes he espoused, and
11 WHEREAS, his active and vocal stands on community
12
issues, whether popular with majorities or minorities, represented
13
a healthy influence in the conduct of City business,
14
NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the members of
15
the City Council of the City of Newport Beach for and on behalf
16
of its citizens and themselves do hereby pay tribute to the
17
memory of Col. Andy Smith and express appreciation for his
18
valued service to his community,
19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be
20
recorded with the minutes of the City Council meeting this date
21
and that a copy be delivered to Mrs. Florence Smith.

THE ABOVE AMID FOREGOING RESOLUTION was unanimously

adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
24
I Newport Beach on the 14th day of September, 1959, by the
25
following vote, to wit:

AYES, COUNCILMEN: Kingsley, Atkinson; Higbie,
27
Stoddard; Hart, Lorenz, Somers

the foregoing Resolution No. 5086 was duly and
regularly adopted, passed, and approved by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach, California, at a regular meeting of
said City Council held at the regular meeting place thereof, on
