611 TAM Catalina Island, particularly Avalon Harbor,
7 is the focal point for yachting activities in Southern CalifoWnia;

10 the City of Newport Beach lost his life and more than a million
11 dollars worth of yachts were destroyed; and
12 WIUZn , this tragedy. would not have occurred if an
13 adequate harbor of refuge had been in exiotence at Avalon; and
14 VFME,' , at the present time the Small Craft harbors
15 Commission is consideridg the request of the City of Avalon for
16 financial assance to pay for the construction of a harbor of
17 refuge;
18 N07,1$ Ta EFOR., BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
19 strongly supports the City of AvalonTs 'request for a construction
20 loan to build a breakwater and pier facilities in Avalon Harbor
21 and recommends the approval of such a loan by the Commission.
