NEWPORT BEACH DIRECTING TIME TRAFFIC ENGINEER TO

9HEREAS, the City Council is deeply concerned about the

hazard to ;pedestrians using the pedestrian crosswalk on East Coast
8
Highway at Orchid Avenue in the Corona del Mar area of the City of

Newport Beach; and

VIiEREAS, said pedestrian crosswalk is located on a state
111
highway; and

€HEREAS, on the basis of the advice of the City Traffic
13
Engineer and their own knowledge of the community, the City Council
14
is convinced that it is essential that special warning signs be
15
erected on either side of East Coast Highway at said intersection
16
for the purpose of warning approaching motorists of the pedestrian
17
crosswalk; and
18
VEERS S, in order to install said warning signs, it is
19
necessary that the City apply to the State Division of Highways
20
for an encroachment permit; and
21
UHEREAS, for many years it has been the practice of the
22
City to place a temporary warning sign in the center of East Coast
23
Highway at said intersection, which sign no longer satisfies the
24
1 standards of the State Division of Highways;

1. That the City Traffic Engineer is directed to apply
27
to the State Division of Highways for an encroachment permit for
28
the installation of warning signs on either side of East Coast
29
Highway at its intersection with Orchid Avenue in the Corona del
30
Mar area of the City.

2. That the officials of the State Division of Highways
32
vested with authority to approve said permit are urged to grant
