RESOLUTION NO. 6538
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE LEGISLATURE TO
REVISE THE MAYO -BREED FORMULA FOR THE ALLOCATION
OF STATE GASOLINE TAXES
WHEREAS, under the existing Mayo -Breed Formulae fifty-
five percent of the state gasoline tax revenues is allocated to
the Southern California counties; and
WHEREAS, the actual highway construction needs of the
Southern counties are not being adequately met under the present
formula and as a result urgently needed highway projects are
being delayed; and
WHEREAS, there is a critical traffic congestion prob-
lem which is causing an increase in the traffic accident rate in
the Southern counties area that could be alleviated by a more
equitable distribution of gas tax revenues; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature has under consideration a
proposal to amend the Mayo -Breed Formula to allocate a minimum
of sixty percent of state highway construction funds to the thir-
teen Southern California counties;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
hereby endorses the proposal to amend the Mayo -Breed Formula and
requests that the Legislature act favorably thereon.
