NE &fcCRT BEACH ESTABLISHING REGULATIONS, CONTROLLING
THE I14STALLZUION AND . MAINTENANCE .OF VOLLEYBALLL
PLAYING AREAS.ON THE PUBLIC CCZAN FRONT BEACI-05 IN

AREAS, an interest exists in playing volleyball on
the public ocean front beaches in the City of Newport Beach; and
MiEREAa, volleyball is a healthy, wholesome recreational
activity which should be encouraged; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to separate volleyball playing
from sunbathing, swimming and other uses of the beach to elim-
inate conflicts;
NOW3 THEREliORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows:
(1) The public ocean front beaches are hereby divided
into four volleyball playing zones which are identified as follows;
ZONE ONE shall be the area between the
Santa Ana River and Orange Avenue.
ZONE TWO shall be the area between Orange
Avenue and Newport Pier.
ZONE TIME shall be the area between the
Newport Pier and the West Jetty.
ZCVE FOUR shall be the main beach at Corona
del Liar State and City Beach Park.
(2) No volleyball posts shall be installed within fifty
feet (50') of a private property line in any of the four volleyball
playing zones established herein.
(3) All volleyball posts installed and maintained with-
in Zone Two shall be at least eight hundred feet (500') apart.
(4) All volleyball posts located in any of the zones
established herein shall be installed and maintained exclusively
by the City department of Parks, Beaches and Recreation.
(5) Any volleyball posts in existence on the date of
adoption of this resolution shall be considered nonconforming
and may be removed at the discretion of the Parks, Beaches and
Recreation director after the expiration of thirty days following
