CITY COUNCIL MEETING
FOR THE RECORD
April 9, 2013
Council and City Staff.-
I am unable to attend tonight's City Council Meeting but as a resident and a Member of the
Board of Directors of West Newport I very much hope you will consider a waive of Council
Policy L -16 and approve the request of the Newport Peninsula July 4h Parade and Festival
Committee to install 33 banners.
We have had unbelievable positive feedback from the community on how the 4th of July
parade and fesitval has changed the overall atmosphere at this end of the Peninsula and
want to keep the momentum going in the right direction. We hope to turn this Holiday into
a family celebration not an unruly drunk fest of underage out of towners.
I believe having the banners up sends the message to our area and our visitors which
includes a large amount of rentals, that the community is going to keep moving forward
and change the "WAR ZONE" into a Patriotic observance that includes everyone,
especially families, permanent or rental.
I hope you all will support us in our desire to "make over" our little area of Newport as I
feel with your backing and the hard work of the city staff (who have been great) we are
making huge changes for the betterment of the entire community.
Looking to the future I would also hope you would consider using these brackets for
other uses such as honoring our local military residents on active duty now or advertising
our local Christmas boat parade.
Thank you for your time, consideration and support.
Respectfully,
Cindy Koller
