HomeMy WebLinkAbout21 - Mobilitie Telecom Permit - Correspondence Handouts"RECEIVED AFTER AGEN 1A R ED2 February 6, 2013 2- 102 -13 26113 iFEB -7 Ali 9: 32 Dear City Clerk of Newport Beach: Ci r.. r .. • S1- .HI✓II I am writing on behalf of myself and my neighbors protesting the installation of a faux 62 foot eucalyptus tree for a cell phone tower. This location, 2401 Irvine Avenue, is a church on a corner surrounded by all homes on three sides of the property. There already exists a faux giant cross with cell towers inside. I am including the information regarding the dangers of these towers. We are already inundated with EMF's from Smart Meters (installed without our permission), computers, wifi, cell phones, microwaves, etc. The government and phone companies insist there is no danger. Not true ............. PLEASE DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN o A study by Dr. Bruce Hocking in Australia found that children living near three TV and FM broadcast towers (similar to cell towers) in Sydney had more than twice the rate of leukemia than children living more than seven miles away. Says Dr. Neil Cherry, a biophysicist at Lincoln University in New Zealand: "Public health surveys of people living in the vicinity of cell site base stations should be being carried out now, and continue progressively over the next two decades. This is because prompt effects such as miscarriage, cardiac disruption, sleep disturbance and chronic fatigue could well be early indicators of the adverse health effects. Symptoms of reduced immune system competence, cardiac problems, especially of the arrhythmic type, and cancers, especially brain tumor and leukemia, are probable." e Biomedical engineer Mariana Alves- Pereira says exposure to cell phone towers can lead to vibroacoustic disease. "From what I understand, some of the complaints are similar in what is seen in vibroacoustic disease patients, which are people who develop a disease caused by low frequency noise exposure," she said. Symptoms can include mood swings, indigestion, ulcers and joint pain. ® Dr. Gerard Hyland, a physicist who was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize in medicine, says, "Existing safety guidelines for cell phone towers are completely inadequate ... Quite justifiably, the public remains skeptical of attempts by governments and industry to reassure them that all is well, particularly given the unethical way in which they often operate symbiotically so as to promote their own vested interests." According to the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, "Studies have shown that even at low levels of this radiation, there is evidence of damage to cell tissue and DNA, and it has been linked to brain tumors, cancer, suppressed immune function, depression, miscarriage, Alzheimer's disease, and numerous other serious illnesses." According to Dr. W. Loscher of the Institute of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy of the Veterinary School of Hannover in Germany, dairy cows that were kept in close proximity to a TV and cell phone tower for two years had a reduction in milk production along with increased health problems and behavioral abnormalities. In an experiment, one cow with abnormal behavior was taken away from the antenna and the behavior subsided within five days. When the cow was brought back near the antenna, the symptoms returned. It is our understanding the proposed facility will consist of a stealth tower design on the existing property where AT &T's existing fagade- mounted wireless facility is located. The proposed Mobilitie site should provide a considerable increase in line of site compared to AT &T's existing facility on the property. The additional height should provide a significant improvement in wireless coverage to this area of Newport Beach. Over the past few years AT &T has been unsuccessful in developing additional sites to address the coverage and capacity issues. The existing Newport Beach wireless ordinance and lack of suitable locations makes it extremely difficult to construct wireless facilities in this residential area. We fully support Mobilitie's efforts to develop a new facility on this property that maximizes height and the ability for additional carriers to co- locate. Curry City Council Members 3300 Newport Blvd. Newport Beach, 92658 (Disciples of Christ) February 7, 2013 RE: Case No. TP2030.073 (Mobilitie / Verizon Wireless) Harbor Christian Church, 2401 Irvine Avenue, Newport Beach, CA 92660 Dear Ms. Nueno, On behalf of Harbor Christian Church, our Board of Trustees requests that the City Council for the City of Newport Beach review and approve Case No. TP2010.073 for a multi- carrier wireless facility to be installed by Mobilitie LLC at the Harbor Christian Church site. We support the proposed wireless communication facility as it is currently designed and sited. We believe the proposed faux eucalyptus is an appropriate design for the church property. We also feel it will blend well with the numerous existing eucalyptus trees on the site. Additionally, the construction of the faux eucalyptus will provide a better facility to which several of the existing wireless carriers possibly would want to relocate. This would allow them to remove their existing antennas and cabling from the exterior of the church building. By moving those items it would greatly improve the appearance of the church facility and eliminate maintenance issues for the church. Harbor Christian Church supports the installation of Verizon Wireless onto the proposed faux eucalyptus and the relocation of other wireless carriers to the faux tree. We believe the improved wireless facility will greatly enhance the 4G /LTE voice, data and internet services for the area of coverage which is predominately residential in nature and thus typically lacking in adequate sites such as ours for cellular infrastructure. Additionally, improvements in 911 services would be of significant benefit to the neighborhood and the residents of Newport Beach. Thank you for your time and consideration of this wireless project. We strongly believe it is in the best interest of the City of Newport Beach, Harbor Christian Church and the residents of the area to approve this proposal.
