RESOLUTION NO. 8241
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING AND DETERMINING THAT
REMODELING OF THE MULTI - PURPOSE ROOM TO HOUSE
THE NEW COMPUTER MAY BE PERFORMED BY THE CITY
ACTING AS ITS OWN CONTRACTOR AND PURCHASING
SUPPLIES AND SERVICES ON THE OPEN MARKET, BASED
ON ESTIMATES APPROVED BY THE CITY MANAGER
WHEREAS, the revised Master Plan for the City Hall
site includes the remodeling of the multi - purpose room to house
the new computer; and
WHEREAS, based on quotations submitted by reliable
local firms, it has been estimated that the total project would
cost approximately $25,000, if the City acts as its own contractor,
representing a considerable savings to the City over the cost of
construction under public works contract procedures; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 1110 of the City of
Newport Beach Charter, the City Council may, upon adoption of a
resolution by at least five affirmative votes of its members,
proceed to have work done or supplies or materials purchased on
the open market, without advertising for bids, based on estimates
approved by the City Manager, when it is determined that said work
can be performed better and more economically by the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by at least five affirma-
tive votes of its members, that the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach DOES HEREBY DECLARE AND DETERMINE that, in its
opinion and based on estimates approved by the City Manager, the
work of remodeling of the multi - purpose room to house the new
computer may be performed better and more economically by the City
with its own employees, acting as its own contractor, and purchasing
supplies or materials on the open market;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Public Works Director
is authorized to construct said multi - purpose room project without
compliance with the public bid procedure.
ADOPTED this 13th day of May, 1974.
