A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH COMMENDING A. KENNETH SAMPSON ON
RETIREMENT FROM THE ORANGE COUNTY HARBORS, BEACHES
AND PARKS DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, A. Kenneth Sampson, former Director of the
• Orange County Harbors, Beaches and Parks Department and the
man generally credited for the development of the Dana Point
Harbor, retired on January 16, 1975; and
WHEREAS, Ken Sampson's public service career has
spanned over 45 years in the Orange and Los Angeles Counties;
and
WHEREAS, he began his career in Orange County in 1954
as Assistant County Planning Director and later was appointed
as the Director of the Harbors, Beaches and Parks Department;
and
WHEREAS, Ken Sampson was charter member and past
president of the California Planners Institute, and past president
and member of the Board of Directors of the Marine Affairs and
Navigation Conference, and past president and member of the Board
of Directors of the Orange County Coast Association, and past
chairman of the Technical Subcommittee of the Northwestern Orange
County Coastal Project Coordinating Committee; and
WHEREAS, Ken Sampson has displayed a great love for
the harbor area and has long displayed concern for its youth,
civic, cultural, welfare and beautification programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
• of the City of Newport Beach hereby commends Kenneth Sampson
on his retirement as Director of the Harbors, Beaches and
Parks Department of the County of Orange, and wishes to express

its sincere appreciation for the many significant contributions
he has made to the County of Orange and to the City of Newport
Beach.
