RESOLUTION NO. 8506
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING
THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSIT DISTRICT TO ESTABLISH
A CONTINUOUS BUS ROUTE ALONG COAST HIGHWAY
THROUGH ORANGE COUNTY FROM THE NORTHERN COUNTY
LINE TO THE SOUTHERN COUNTY LINE
WHEREAS, Coast Highway is a major transportation
corridor serving Orange County residents; and
WHEREAS, present bus service provided by the Orange
County Transit District on Coast Highway is inconsistent with
the adopted policies of the District; and
WHEREAS, there is an enormous public need for commuter
home -to -work bus service along Coast Highway; and
WHEREAS, present bus service on Coast Highway is
fragmented and lacks continuity and is incompatible with the
demonstrated existing public need; and
WHEREAS, RTD line 55 cannot provide adequate service to
fill the public need and further has a schedule too severely
limited to fulfil the commuter needs of the public; and
WHEREAS, there is a clear need for continuous bus
service on Coast Highway from the northern county line to the
southern county line which will not require transfers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the City of Newport Beach hereby
urges the Orange County Transit District to establish a continuous
bus route, which will require no transfers, along Coast Highway
from the northern county line to the southern county line, as
soon as possible.
