A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY" COUNCIL OF THE CITY
' OF NEWPORT BEACH SETTING FORTH THE PERMISSION
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH TO FRIENDS OF OASIS TO APPLY FOR TITLE
III -B FUNDS FROM THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF
HEALTH, EDUCATION AND WELFARE FOR IMPROVEMENTS
TO THE OASIS CENTER AND FOR THE ACQUISITION OF
MOTOR VEHICLES TO BE USED BY FRIENDS OF OASIS,
INC.
WHEREAS, the Friends of Oasis, Inc., is the official
citizens' support group for the Newport Beach senior citizens'
center at Fifth and Marguerite Avenues, Corona del Mar; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Oasis, Inc., has been instru-
mental in improving the Newport Beach senior citizens' center
at no cost to the City; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Oasis has successfully applied
for and received $29,692.46 in Title III -B HEW funds for certain
renovations to the multipurpose room and the purchase of a ten -
passenger van and other equipment for the Newport Beach senior
citizens' center; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Oasis pledged matching funds
for this Title III -B grant, to bring the total project to
$34,932.30, and said matching funds will come from the treasury
of Friends of Oasis, Inc., which contains money from membership
dues and a variety of fund - raising projects and does not include
any City tax revenues; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Oasis needs official City
sanction and permission to complete this Title III -B grant

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the Friends of Oasis, Inc., has

official City permission to make minor renovations to the
multipurpose room as specified in the Title III -B application,
to wit, the installation of motorized room dividers, the
purchase and storage of a portable dance floor, and a portable
stage; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Friends of Oasis,
Inc., has the City's permission to proceed with the completion
ofthis project and to enter into contract with the County of
Orange to acquire the Title III -B funds which also will finance
the purchase of a ten - passenger van and a used pick -up truck
adding needed transportation to the services already provided
by the Newport Beach senior citizens' center; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach applauds the volunteer efforts of the
27,740 members of Friends of Oasis, Inc., to provide maximum
Older Adult Social and Information Services at the Newport
Beach senior citizens' center.
