CURRENT BUSINESS 1. CLARIFICATION OF ITEMS ON THE CONSENT CALENDAR. (4:00 P.M.) 2. ORANGE COUNTY SANITATION DISTRICT (OCSD) — FUTURE PROJECT OVERVIEW. (4:05 P.M.) The Orange County Sanitation District is the special district that receives and treats much of the community's wastewater. OCSD manages a system of pump stations and collection lines across the community, including along Pacific Coast Highway. This presentation will show the Council and community where a number of important OCSD line and pump station rehabilitation projects will occur in the coming few years. The construction will impact traffic patterns and more. 3. RESIDENTIAL REFUSE COLLECTION REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP). (4:45 P.M.) The City has a premier trash collection system that is well -loved by the residents who receive it. Most people would never want to change the current system. But laws, regulations, and systems are changing despite that. As the State of California increases the percentage of the waste stream that must be diverted from landfills to 75% in the coming years, as our trash vehicles age, and as staff members retire, the City needs to look at the way we collect trash. Would an automated system reduce injury and make for a more efficient system? How would an automated system work? Does everyone have to accept that large ugly trash can? What about curbside recycling — will the community get to the 75% diversion goal without it? This item is a chance for the Council and community to discuss options for a Request for Proposals for residential trash collection. The City provides a yellow sign -in card to assist in the preparation of the minutes. The completion of the card is not required in order to address the Council. The City Council of Newport Beach welcomes and encourages community participation. Public comments are generally limited to three (3) minutes per person to allow everyone to speak. Written comments are encouraged as well. *xerxra *x xr * *r * *arr * * ** x,r xxrx Any writings or documents provided to a majority of the City Council regarding any item on this agenda will be made available for public inspection in the Office of the City Clerk located at 3300 Newport Boulevard during normal business hours.
