A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 9877 BY INCREASING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE "75TH ANNIVERSARY AD HOC COMMITTEE" TO 35, ENDORSING PREPARATION BY THE COMMITTEE OF A HISTORY OF NEWPORT BEACH, AND ALLOWING THE COMMITTEE TO RAISE FUNDS, AND CREATING THE "75TH ANNIVERSARY FUND" WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 9877 on September 8, 1980, establishing the "75th Anniversary Ad Hoc Committee," hereinafter referred to as the "75th Anniversary Committee "; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate and in the best interest of the City to increase the membership of said Committee to thirty- five (35); and WHEREAS, the Committee proposes to prepare a book cover- ing the history of Newport Beach and has asked the City Council to support the concept of said book; and WHEREAS, due to the specialized nature of the Committee, its short term of existence and its ability to raise funds, it is appropriate to permit the 75th Anniversary Committee to raise funds on its behalf and on behalf of the 75th Anniversary celebration of the City of Newport Beach and be exempted from • Council Policy F -18; and WHEREAS, to facilitate the operation of said Committee, it is appropriate for the Finance Department to maintain accounts of said Committee, under the "75th Anniversary Fund" designation, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of • the City of Newport Beach that Resolution No. 9877 is hereby • amended as follows: 1. The 75th Anniversary Committee shall be composed of thirty -five (35) members, each of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor. 2. A quorum of said Committee shall consist of one- third (1/3) of any currently serving membership, but not less than twelve (12) persons eligible to vote. 3. The Committee chairman and vice - chairman shall be appointed by the Mayor. 4. The Committee shall appoint any necessary working subcommittees. 5. The Committee shall hold at least one regular meeting each month within the City of Newport Beach. 6. The Committee shall report to the City Council at a Study Session as often as is necessary to advise the City Council on the progress of the Committee and the projects and activities which have been planned or undertaken by the Committee. The Committee shall act as the City's official body to coordinate and • carry out plans and events to commemorate the 75th birthday of the City of Newport Beach. • 7. The various programs, events and activities con- ducted by the Committee shall be in keeping with the historic celebration of the City's 75th birthday and deal primarily with 0 the traditions and history of Newport Beach from its preincorpo- • ration times to present. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the City Council endorses, in concept, the proposal of the 75th Anniversary Committee to prepare a history of the City of Newport Beach, both in soft -cover and hard - cover, and that the members of the 75th Anniversary Committee working to write, produce and publish said history are working on behalf of the City of Newport Beach.
