A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH APPROVING IN CONCEPT THE
DESIGNATION OF CABO SAN LUCAS AS A SISTER CITY
AND CREATING AN AD HOC CITY COUNCIL SISTER
CITY STUDY COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is considering
designating Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur, as a sister City; and
WHEREAS, the 75th Anniversary Committee has supported
the designation of Cabo San Lucas as a sister City to the City of
Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to approve in concept
the designation of Cabo San Lucas as a sister City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to create an Ad Hoc
City Council Sister City Study Committee to review and study the
desirability of designating Cabo San Lucas as a sister City to
the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, it is a goal of the Ad Hoc City Council Sister
City Study Committee to finalize the sister City arrangements to
coincide with the 75th Anniversary of the City of Newport Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the City Council approves in
concept the designation of Cabo San Lucas as a sister City to the
City of Newport Beach.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach hereby creates the Ad Hoc City Council
Sister City Study Committee. The functions and duties of the
committee shall be as follows:

1. The Committee shall consist of two members, appointed by
the Mayor.
2. The City staff laison to the Committee shall be the
Parks, Beaches and Recreation Director.
3. The Committee shall meet with interested groups to study
and report back to the City Council on the recommended
organization of the program, method of funding and other
matters related to the designation of Cabo San Lucas as
a sister City to the City of Newport Beach.
4. The Committee shall attempt to finalize the sister City
arrangements to coincide with the 75th Anniversary of
the City of Newport Beach.
5. The Committee shall be sunsetted and cease to exist
December 31, 1981, or at such earlier time as the
Committee's work is completed.
