• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH PROHIBITING PARKING ON THE
WEST SIDE OF BIRCH ST. BETWEEN QUAIL ST. AND
BRISTOL ST. NORTH FROM 3:00 P.M. TO 6:00 P.M.
ON WEEKDAYS, PURSUANT TO SECTION 12.44.010 OF
THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAI, CODE
WHEREAS, Section 12.44.010 of the Newport Beach Municipal
Code, Subdivision C thereof, provides that when special parking
or traffic conditions require different hours or days of parking
restrictions that the City Council may, by Resolution, vary the
hours and days which the one and two -hour parking restrictions
are in effect, and, when authorized signs are in place giving
notice thereof, no person shall stop, stand, or park any vehicle
contrary to the direction or provisions of such signs; and
WHEREAS, on the west side of Birch St., between Quail St.
and Bristol St., there is needed a second right -turn lane from
south -bound Birch St. to west -bound Bristol St. north; and in
order for this additional lane to operate effectively, parking
must be restricted during the peak traffic period; and
WHEREAS, the Traffic Affairs Committee has met and discussed
the proposed parking restriction and further invited businesses
along Birch St. to attend; and
WHEREAS, traffic demands on Birch St. justify the parking
restriction to permit the creation of a second right -hand turn
lane,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach as follows:
1. Parking is prohibited on the west side of Birch St.
• between Quail St. and Bristol St. north from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00
p.m. on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays beng excluded
therefrom;
2. The Traffic Engineer is authorized and directed to place
signs giving notice of the parking restriction.
• 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
caused certified copies of this Resolution to be sent to the
Newport Beach Police Department, Newport Beach Traffic Engineer
and the Harbor Municipal Court.
