RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY COUNCIL TO
SUBMIT TO THE CITY CLERK, Ali ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF
THE BALLOT MEASURE THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF THE
SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION CALLED BY THE CITY
• COUNCIL ON JANUARY 25 , 1982 BY RESOLUTION
NO. 82 -12
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach
has, on January 25, 1982, adopted Resolution No. 82 -12 calling
and giving notice of, the holding of a Special Municipal Election
to be held in said City on Tuesday, June 8, 1982, for submission
to the qualified electors of said City, the following Ballot
Measure:
SHALL SECTION 3.16.030 OF' THE NEWPORT
BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE BE AMENDED TO
INCREASE THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX RATE
FROM SIX PERCENT (6 %) OF THE RENT CHARGED
BY EACH HOTEL OPERATOR TO EIGHT PERCENT YES
(8 %) OF THE RENT CHARGED BY THE OPERATOR
TO BE PAID BY THE TRANSIENT IN ANY HOTEL,
EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 1982; AND SHALL THE
LIMITATIONS IMPOSED BY ARTICLE XIII -B OF
THE STATE CONSTITUTION BE INCREASED IN NO
THE AMOUNT OF REVENUE GENERATED BY THE
INCREASE IN SAID TAX RATE AND FOR A
PERIOD OF TIME NOT TO EXCEED FOUR YEARS
FROM THE DATE OF APPROVAL HEREOF?
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach
is authorized to file, with the City Clerk, an argument in favor
of the Ballot Measure, which argument shall not exceed 300 words
in length;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the Mayor and the Mayor Pro Tem
are hereby directed to prepare a proposed written argument, for
submission to the City Clerk, in favor of the Ballot Measure
described above, and to return to the City Council the proposed
argument for City Council approval, by March 22, 1982.
