A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH ENCOURAGING THE USE OF
FIRE SAFE ROOFS THROUGH THE CITY
WHEREAS, recent firestorms in California have destroyed more than 1,000
ishomes and 200,000 acres of wild lands, and have resulted in several deaths as well

as numerous injuries; and
WHEREAS, many of these homes were destroyed because of the proximity of
structures to highly flammable brush, vegetation and combustible roofing
materials; and
WHEREAS, many of the roofs within Newport Beach are of an age that they
need replacement; and,
WHEREAS, many new fire -safe roofing materials have come available since
the original declaration of the covenants, conditions and restrictions of these
community associations that should be included within those CC &R's,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach to urge all citizens and Community Associations to expeditiously
review their CC &R's to permit the installation of a greater quantity of fire safe
roofs for our community protection during future disasters.
