Big Canyon Interim Management Update
In partnership w/ the Newport Bay Conservancy
1 and the Coastal Commissions ROOTs program,
r IRC led 11 stewardship events between August
2013 and April 2014. Much of the highlighted work
Closed unauthorized social trait
- Installed 5 check -dams was accomplished during these events.
- Fenced top and bottom
- Planted and mulched entire trail

using native CSS plantings

Removed nearly 4 tons of iceplant
Planted over 120 native CSS container plants
Under site preperation for CSS & grassland restoration
- Removed over 1 acre of fennel
- Treated over 1 acre of weeds w/ water -safe herbicide
- Active planting to begin next November (2014)
Planted over 400 native CSS container plants
Removed several stands of invasive
pampass grass, tree tobacco, artichoke
thistle, castor bean, and black mustard
