TITLE: 2014 -2015 Annual Sidewalk Curb & Gutter Replacement Project — Award of
Contract No. 5884 (CAP15 -0012)
ABSTRACT:
Staff has received seven construction bids for the 2014 -2015 Annual Sidewalk, Curb & Gutter
Replacement project and is requesting City Council's approval to award the contract to Grigolla & Sons
Construction Company, Inc.
RECOMMENDATION:
a) Approve the project drawings and specifications;
b) Award Contract No. 5884 to Grigolla & Sons Construction Company, Inc. for the total bid price of
$647,300.00, and authorize the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute the contract;
c) Establish an amount of $65,000.00 (10 %) to cover the cost of unforeseen work not included in the
original contract; and
d) Approve Budget Amendment No. 15BA -015 appropriating $218,300.00 from unappropriated Gas Tax
balance to Account No. 7181- C2001009 (Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Replacement).
FUNDING REQUIREMENTS:
The FY 2014 -15 Capital Improvement Program budget included $500,000 in funding for the annual
concrete replacement program, this year slated primarily for the Corona del Mar area. Upon completion of
the actual field review surveys this summer, Public Works staff recommended that the quantities of
concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters requiring replacement be increased above the original estimates to
include additional curb and gutter needs in the Shorecliffs and Irvine Terrace communities. To address this
additional concrete work, staff recommends approval of a Budget Amendment appropriating $218,300.00
from the Gas Tax Fund to Account No. 7181- C2001009 (Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Replacement). Next
year's annual project will have less concrete replacements, as this is the last year in the seven year cycle
for the program.

curb access ramps, driveways, pruning tree roots and installing tree root barriers within the Shorecliffs,

( "CEQA ") pursuant to Section 15302 (replacement of existing facilities involving negligible expansion of
