Ms. Gardner,
I am writing in support of the Port Theater for what seems to be a discrimination issue.
The Port should have the same riles as Regal Island theater. When granting the right to one,
the same rules/laws should apply to the same type of facility in the same city. Not to mention
the fact that the Port is family owned and we need to support that in our town as much as possible!
Thank you,
Michelle Peschel
We have requested the City of Newport Beach allow us to have the same conditions as the
Regal Island 7 theater. The two requests we have are to (1) allow mixed ages in a theater
where alcohol is served (so a parent can sit together with their children), and (2) serve alcohol
until lam. This will allow you to sit anywhere in the theater that you like, regardless of whether
you are enjoying a glass of wine (or not), or with a guest under age 21 (or not). We also asked
for permission to serve alcohol until 1 a so that we can offer you all amenities (including a
glass of wine) at our last showtime.

Dear Ms. Gardner:
I am writing to express my support for the Port Newport's theater to be allowed to serve alcohol in accordance
with their request which was initially approved by the Newport Beach Planning Commision. I hope that you
will decide accordingly. We are so excited to have the Port reopened after so many years of shut down. Let's all
support their continued viability, which is definitely enhanced by their ability not only to sell alcohol with
limited restrictions, but also by being able to compete with the nearby Newport Beach Regal chain. Let's please
support small business!!!
I will be unable to attend the September 23rd meeting but would like this letter to reflect my support for the
Newport Theater's request.
Cordially,

Newport Beach City Council:
I know that your are considering the request for the Port Theater to serve alcohol until 1 am on September 23. It
is legal to serve alcohol at any establishment that has a liquor license until tam and cannot understand any
reluctance to disallow it at the Port Theater. Again, the standard should be that the person is not under the
influence to the extent of the law. This can be monitored by the theater itself. I personally doubt that anyone
would go to the theater to become inebriated since there are so many other social clubs and bars available.
I also support that parents who may have a glass of wine be allowed to sit with their children....the same as in
any restaurant, etc. I do not understand the reasoning that this establishment should be treated in anyway other
than others around it.
Sincerely,
Colleen Wilson

Dear Mrs. Gardener:
As a frequent patron of The Port Theater, I'm writing in support of their application to expand their business
license to serve alcohol in a mixed minor /adult environment. It's my understanding this is the same privilege the
Regal 7 enjoys, yet the approval has been held up on appeal to the City Council. My wife and I often enjoy
bringing the whole family to movies at The Port, and like to enjoy a glass of wine with a cheese platter, while
the kids have a fresh pizza. Why shouldn't we be able to sit where we like (upstairs or down) while doing this?
And why shouldn't I be able to see a late -night sci -fi show with our college aged daughter (as I did recently)
without worrying about a "last call" hours before the show lets out at 1:00am?
It's natural to be concerned that this theater might disrupt the local neighborhood if it were to look more like a
nightclub, however I can assure you - The Port is a lovely neighborhood addition, with a decidedly upscale
clientele, with the appropriate behavior that implies.
Sincerely,

Dear Council Member Gardner,
I'm writing to voice my support for the Port Theater's request to serve alcohol until 1 an and to allow patrons
who choose to consume alcohol to sit anywhere in the theater. We currently enjoy going to movies at Island
Cinema (Allagasb White on tap -- my favorite!) and I haven't seen that a mixed seating policy has caused any
issues there.
The Port Theater is a great addition to Newport Beach and in a tough economy we should be doing everything
we can to help them remain competitive and financially viable. This seems like a modest, common sense
proposal that shouldn't have any negative impact on the community. I hope you'll uphold the Planning
Commission's approval.
Cheers.

Dear Ms. Gardner,
I am writing in hopes that you will help the CdM community by allowing the Port Theater to serve alcohol in all
areas of their theater as well as being able to serve until 1:00 A.M. We are so lucky to have this theater in our
little town, and if they can't keep up with the Islands theaters I doubt they will stay in business. I live in the
village on Marigold Ave. My business has been in Newport Center for 38 years. I am definitely a local. I can't
tell you how much we enjoy being able to walk to the Port, have a glass of wine while watching the movie, and
walk home! Sometimes we even eat dinner there while watching the show. Corona del Mar needs more
businesses like this, and slowly but surely, we are getting them. If we lose the Port Theater, that would be a
huge step in the wrong direction. Remember how it sat fallow for 10 years? We love this small town feel, and
really want to support this gem of a theater. Please help!!
Thank you for listening...

I'm writing to you since Ion linable to attend the City Council meeting on Sept. 23. I live about two blocks from

Being a parent, I would love the option of having a glass of wine while taking my children to a show. The
second request is to serve alcohol until lam. Once again, if my husband and I go out on a date night to the Port's

We love our Port Theater and love the convenience of walking to the Port Theater to watch a movie. I feel it's

Thank you for taking the time to read my email, and I hope the City Council supports our neighborhood
theater's requests.

Corona Del Mar finally has a first class theater. I am in favor of The Port being able to sell alcohol, as

Mr. Selich,
Next week the council will be heating an appeal from the planning commission's decision to allow the Port
Theater in CdM to have the same beverage operating conditions as the Islands 7 theater in Fashion Island.
In my opinion is is unfair to give the Irvine Company privileges that independent business people cannot have. I
urge you to vote in favor of the planning commissions prior approval.

Dear Ms. Gardner,
We need your assistance at the Newport Beach City Council meeting next Tuesday evening. Please
vote to provide equal opportunity for the Port Theater (same as the Regal Island 7) to allow mixed
ages in a theater where alcohol is served so I can sit with my son and enjoy a film and maybe an
adult beverage. In addition, please extend their ability to sell alcohol until 1 a so when my wife I are
on a date night, we can have a glass wine with a late showing film. It is time that we allow all the
freedoms we are all do in this wonderful country of ours and this is an easy one to give back to the
people and visitors of CDM.
As I am sure you are aware, the patrons of this fine theater are not the type to be disrespectful in the
neighborhood or cause problems after a movie. I grew up in CDM and there many locations of
concern to the neighbors in this area but the Port Theater is not one of them. I am so excited to the
have the Port back, I can explain how important this is to the town that I call my "hometown ".
I am great fan of your wonderful father and I am sure he would be writing a column about this and
would support this request as well; if we were lucky enough to have him with us today.
Please vote YES to approve this request by the Port Theater and encourage your fellow council
members to do the same!

Hello Nancy,
My name is Erin McDonald and my family and I have had a home on Poinsettia for 12 years. We watched for
several years as they rebuilt the new and beautiful Port Theater. We frequent there often with our neighbors and
families and we want it to succeed!!!
We are so pleased there is a unique venue like The Port locally as an alternative to the mall movie structures.
We would like to sit down on the floor with our children and not have to sit in the balcony simply because we
want to have a glass of wine. We don't have that problem at The Islands and other larger chains and we feel The
Port Theater should share the same opportunity. Whatever we can do to help the success of a local village
business we support.
Thank you for your careful consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Erin

Ms Gardner,
Being an avid supporter and patron of the Port Theater, I would certainly enjoy sitting with our grandchildren
when having a glass of wine at the Port, as we are able to at the Regal 7 and other local restaurants.
Also serving alcohol in moderation until 1 am , though I don't stay out that late seems to make sense too.

Dear Nancy,
We think the Port Theater is an incredible community asset and are upset and confused by your position. They
have proven to be fantastic members of the community and we want them to succeed. Their request to expand
services was approved by the Planning Commission and should be supported by the Council.
