COMMITTEE TO REVIEW APPLICATIONS AND MAKE
RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE FULL COUNCIL FOR THE BOARD
AND COMMISSION VACANCIES SCHEDULED TO OCCUR ON
JUNE 30, 2000
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council confirm the Mayor's appointment of -------- - - - - -- --------- - - - - -- and ----- - - - - --
to serve on the ad -hoc appointments committee to revi.w applications and make
recommendations to the full Council for the Board and Commission vacancies scheduled to
occur on June 30, 2000.
BACKGROUND
On June 30, 2000, the following vacancies will occur on City Boards and Commissions:
Board of Library Trustees — Seat held by Jim Wood (eligible for reappointment)
City Arts Commission — Seats held by Lyn Belasco and Arlene Cartozian (both eligible for
reappointment)
Civil Service Board — Seats held by Dayna Pettit [Fire Employee Association nominee] and
Clint Hoose, Jr. [Police Department Employee Association nominee] (neither are eligible for
reappointment)
Planning Commission — Seat held by Thomas Ashley (eligible for reappointment)
Consistent with Council Policy A -2, the above stated vacancies will be advertised and
applications accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2000.

Following the interview process, the nominations will be scheduled for confirmation by the full
City Council on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, and the final appointments will be made on Tuesday,
June 27, 2000. All new terms will be effective on July 1, 2000 with an expiration date of June
30, 2004.
City Council Policy A -2 establishes the procedures for making appointments to the various
boards and commissions.
As per the Council policy, the Committee's duties are as follows:
A. Review all applications for position to City Boards and Commissions. The ad -hoc
Appointments Committee will review applicant answers to all questions contained in the
application;
B. Conduct any necessary interviews with individual applicants; and
C. At least two weeks prior to the date of appointment, recommend to the full City Council
at a regular public meeting, two or more candidates for each Board or Commission
vacancy. Members of the Council may wish to interview the recommended candidates
further prior to final selection by the Council. By requiring two or more candidates for
each vacancy, it is the intent of the City Council that at least two separate individuals
should be considered for each vacancy, i.e., if there are two vacancies, at least four
separate individuals will be considered.
Once the final appointments are made by the City Council, the ad -hoc appointments committee
will be dissolved.
