BACKGROUND
On December 4, 2000, I received the attached letter of resignation from Steve Bromberg from
the Civil Service Board. The seat vacated by Mr. Bromberg is a Council- nominee position with a
term expiring on June 30, 2001.
Based on the length of time left on Mr. Bromberg's unexpired term and the time required to fill
this vacancy, staff is recommending that the term of the new appointee be extended to June 30,
2005 (one full four -year term plus the remaining balance of the unexpired term). This is
consistent with the way unscheduled vacancies which have occurred relatively close to the
expiration of the term have been handled in the past.
Consistent with Council Policy A -2, information regarding this vacancy will be submitted to The
Daily Pilot for publication. The deadline for submitting applications will be 4:00 p.m. on
Thursday, December 28, 2000, which will allow the committee adequate time to conduct
interviews in order to submit the names of two nominees to the full Council on January 23, 2001.
The appointment to fill the vacancy is scheduled for February 13, 2001.
